The Portuguese translation of the ICOMOS document Heritage and the Sustainable Development Goals: Policy Guidance for Heritage and Development Actors was officially launched on 20 April 2023 at the webinar and workshop organised by the ICOMOS Sustainable Development Goals Working Group (SDGWG), ICOMOS Portugal, Sustainable Culture and ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.
ICOMOS is attending the United Nations Water Conference in New York from 22-24 March 2023 to contribute to new commitments, pledges and actions by governments and all stakeholders towards achieving SDG 6 and other water-related goals and targets. The conference is taking place at the UN Headquarters and will result in a summary of proceedings from the UNGA President that will feed into the 2023 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).
The French translation of the ICOMOS document, "Heritage and the Sustainable Development Goals: Policy Guidance for Heritage and Development Actors" was officially launched at the Annual General Meeting of the ICOMOS Sustainable Development Goals Working Group (SDGWG) held on 27 October 2022. This translated document is aimed at spreading the important advocacy of ICOMOS that heritage is a driver and enabler of the achievement of all the SDGs.
ICOMOS was present at the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development that was held in Mexico City from 28 to 30 September 2022. This conference was focused on embarking on new priorities for the cultural sector that is fully anchored to perspectives of sustainable development and integrated with the new realities affecting the sector brought forth by the climate crisis and the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. On this occasion, ICOMOS delivered a statement on six issues to deal with in future cultural policies: read it in English, French and Spanish.
From 27 June to 1 July 2022, the second United Nations Conference on the Ocean took place in Lisbon, which was co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal.
The aim of the event was to mobilise the international community to commit to finding sustainable solutions for the conservation, protection and responsible use of marine resources, according to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 of the Agenda2030.
