As the UN Decade of Action kicks off for the "transformative 2030 Agenda", ICOMOS’ work on advocating the role of cultural heritage in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is steadily gaining visibility, set to impact the international policy arena and our own heritage practice. The ICOMOS SDGs Working Group (SDGWG) continued its wide range of activities in 2019, from developing partnerships and advocacy to internal mobilization through national and scientific Committees.
ICOMOS and partners in the Culture 2030 Goal campaign have released a Statement on 'Culture and the COVID-19 Pandemic', framed in our commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the need to guarantee culture is at the heart of the UN Decade of Action for the SDGs. The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) had a strong presence at the 10th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF10) in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 8 to 13 February, 2020. Convened by UN-Habitat. The biennial World Urban Forum is the foremost international gathering for exchanging views and experiences on sustainable urbanization; this year, the WUF theme was 'Cities of opportunities - Connecting Culture and Innovation'.

The 2019 ICOMOS Advisory Committee was very fruitful for the Sustainable Development Goals Working Group (SDGsWG), as there were several lively meetings where much discussion took place, ideas were collected and exchanged. The Working Group thanks ICOMOS Morocco for hosting these meetings.
