Following decades of extensive searches, the San Jose, heralded as the ‘holy grail’ of shipwrecks, was discovered in 2015. Subsequent underwater surveys revealed strong evidence supporting the claim that the wreck of the Spanish galleon had been located. In April of this year calls for interest in the project to recover the wreck’s cultural material were sent to various heritage bodies, including ICOMOS.

ICORP - the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness - is proud to launch its "On the Road" Initative - which will showcase inspiring stories by professionals and local communities from around the world about post disaster response and recovery of cultural heritage through Documentaries, ‘Campfire Talks’ and Exhibitions.

The pilot episode is dedicated to the April 2015 Gorkha earthquake in Nepal, which besides its heavy human toll severly affected the heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley. The team is leaving for Nepal on 18 April - International Day for Monuments and Sites - follow their progress through their social media channels!
